Speaker Guidelines
Disclosure of Conflict of Interest
ESWI intends to deliver top-level science to a highly influential audience at the forthcoming Third European Influenza Conference. In doing
so, ESWI is keen to sustain audience confidence in the academic presentations by having lecture content that is valid and free from commercial
bias. Such an approach is aligned with the best interests of the ESWI attendee and enforces transparency, both of which are cornerstones of the
founding principles of ESWI, and are concomitant with the guidelines of CME accreditation.
ESWI duly requests that all invited speakers disclose any relationship with a commercial interest if both (a) the relationship is financial
and has occurred within the past 12 months and (b) the invited speaker has the opportunity to affect the lecture content about the products or
services of that commercial interest. ESWI understands financial relationships to be those relationships in which the invited speaker benefits by
receiving a salary, royalty, intellectual property rights, consulting fee, honoraria, or other financial benefit. Financial benefits are usually
associated with roles that include contracted research, consulting, speaking and teaching, membership on advisory committees or review panels,
board membership, and other activities for which remuneration is received or expected. Inherent in any financial amount is the incentive to
maintain or increase the value of the relationship.
All disclosure information will be assessed with identified conflicts resolved by an effective peer review of lecture content prior to
presentation and publication. A panel of commercially disinterested peers has been tasked with ensuring that all content is valid and free
from commercial bias, references the best available evidence and is aligned with the interest of the ESWI attendee. In order to alert the ESWI
attendee of the potential for conflict of interest, disclosure information will be listed in relevant conference publications and will feature on
a slide preceding the formal presentation of the invited speaker.
In order to allow sufficient time for disclosure information to be analysed properly, please submit any conflicts of interests as soon
as possible to info@linkinc.be. Should there be no conflict of interest, please respond by declaring
"none". Again, ESWI only considers financial relationships to create actual conflicts of interest when the invited speaker has both a financial
relationship with a commercial interest and the opportunity to affect the lecture content about the products or services of that commercial interest.
